Help the Frugalistic Family Get an iPad

Funny thing happened today — I went to Ebates.com to research whether I could get a good coupon code and/or cash back on the purchase of a new tablet computer. Since we’re driving our three kids to California in a few months, I thought it would be good to have a tablet for their backseat entertainment, not to mention for video chat with the grandparents once we live so far away.

Anway, when I got to Ebates, I saw that they’re doing a membership drive. If I sign up 50 new members, they’ll give me an iPad 2*.

I love this deal because signing up is free, and I’m not asking people to buy any particular product. All you have to do, if you’ve never signed up for Ebates before, is sign up through my affiliate link and make a $25 purchase through Ebates at any partner store. For example, if you’re shopping at The Body Shop online today, you’ll get 10% cash back if you do it through Ebates. Products such as technology tend to have lower rebates — for example if you want to shop at The Apple Store or Office Depot you’ll only get 1% cash back. But since I was thinking of going to Office Depot to buy a $499 tablet, that 1% would still add up to $4.99 which is worth an extra click in my book.

Ebates will also tell you about coupon codes that are available for the store you’re about to click through to shop.

Once you’ve accumulated some cash in your Ebates account, you can have them transfer it to Paypal or cut you a check. I’ve currently got $150 waiting for me to claim.
