Some of the stuff I got with the doubled coupon promo @ Jewel. Notice I couldn't wait until I got home to break into the Triscuits?
This week I spent about $77 at 5 stores. From all the little trips I made, I feel like I spent the whole week shopping, and yet our fridge is practically empty. I really need to get out there and buy some fruit and vegetables before we all get scurvy! But at least we have plenty of cereal for the first time in a long time.
Jewel $20 (4 separate trips) Thanks to the doublers coupon offer that ended today, I nabbed free and cheap Cheerios, free yogurt, and some really inexpensive chips and stuff for the entertaining we’re doing this weekend. (Happy Birthday Pebbles!) Why would I bother with free yogurt when the stuff I make at home is so good? Pebbles is bringing the Activias as her birthday treat for school! (Her idea. The 4-and-5-year-olds will be especially regular next week, I guess!)
Fair Share Finer Foods $4.25 on $1.49 Mission chips, a 99-cent box of food coloring, 25-cent lemons and a 93-cent eggplant. Love that store!
Ultra $33.17 on 99-cent 5 lb. bags of white whole wheat flour and some other cheap stuff.
Penzey’s Spices $15.17 on Northwoods blend, dried minced onions and paprika.
CVS $4 on milk
WHAT WE ATE ON $75(ish) THIS WEEK
Breakfasts were peanut butter and jelly toast, homemade granola with yogurt, oatmeal, etc., with fruit. Lunches were leftovers, macaroni & cheese or sandwiches. These are the dinners:
WEDNESDAY The kids had fish sticks and sweet potato fries, and Epu and I went out for a dinner date using a gift certificate we’d gotten for our anniversary.
THURSDAY I was at the dentist at dinnertime, but Epu served the kids pancakes and fruit I think.
FRIDAY Ordered a stuffed pizza for Epu and me, but the kids didn’t want it so they had a frozen Jack’s pizza. Everyone was happy!
SATURDAY I was making beef stew with wine and carrots and whole wheat rolls, but some friends ended up coming to dinner and one of them is a vegetarian. So we still had the stew, but we also ended up having a vegetable stew she brought and some plain pasta, plus some delicious chocolates and bourbon they brought for dessert. Friends like those are hard to find!
SUNDAY Drove to Kenosha to pick up Toth from the grandparents and met them for a Perkins dinner.
MONDAY Split pea soup made from the stock of ham hocks and other bones, plus ham chunks. Plus homemade whole wheat bread. The only thing missing from our traditional winter meal was … winter.
TUESDAY Using a jar of some kind of African stew sauce I’d found on clearance at Jewel awhile back, I cooked up eggplant, onions, tofu and organic spinach, and served over brown rice. It was a huge hit! Wish Jewel had more of that stew sauce on clearance.
Since I spent X,
