Free Museum Days Coming Up

Free Chicago museum days are coming up. Notice this new thing, though: All the museums are saying the free day is for Illinois residents only*, and that you should bring ID to prove it.

Shedd Aquarium Community Discount Days

  • Every Monday and Tuesday through the end of November.

Not including the Jellies exhibit or the Oceanarium.

Notebaert Nature Museum

  • Every Thursday is free, year round.

Nutmeg loves the butterfly dome.

* Mean! I know so many people in my hometown of Kenosha, Wis., enjoyed taking the Metra down to Chicago on museum free days.

I took my 2 younger kids to the Field Museum yesterday. It was easy to find metered parking to avoid the expensive parking lot and the museum wasn’t crowded despite the free admission and the crummy weather. They did ask for ID when we were entering and the person at the desk made the senior citizen in front of me pay full price because she had taken the bus and left her ID at home…ouch!

Glad you had a great day and scored street parking. I can’t believe they did that to a senior citizen. I am sure they are tired of giving free admission to tourists instead of locals, but … sheesh.
